Goalkeeper Glove Care Guide

Look after your gloves and they’ll look after your hands.

Seismic goalkeeper gloves use soft, professional-grade latex for excellent grip. A little care before and after each game will help keep them performing at their best.

1. Before Your First Game

Always pre-wash new gloves before use.

New latex can have a protective coating left over from manufacturing. Washing your gloves helps remove this and brings out their natural grip.

  • Rinse in lukewarm water.
  • Gently rub the palms with your fingers.
  • Rinse thoroughly and repeat if needed.
  • Allow them to dry naturally.

Top tip: Slightly damp palms generally provide better grip than completely dry latex.

2. Washing Your Gloves

Clean your gloves after every match or training session.

Mud, dirt and dried-out latex can shorten the life of your gloves.

  • Hand-wash in lukewarm water.
  • Use a small amount of mild, non-biological detergent if needed.
  • Gently massage the palms to remove dirt.
  • Rinse thoroughly and squeeze gently to remove excess water.

Never scrub the latex with a brush or use fabric softener.

Hand-washing is best. If necessary, a short, gentle machine wash at 30°C maximum may be used, but machine washing carries a greater risk of damage.

3. Drying & Storage

Never dry your gloves on a radiator or in direct sunlight.

Heat can damage the latex and cause it to become brittle.

Allow your gloves to air-dry naturally at room temperature. Make sure the inside is dry before storing them.

Keep the palms apart when storing your gloves. Seismic’s double-pouch glove packaging is designed to give each glove its own space.

4. Protecting Your Latex

Professional latex is soft to maximise grip, so some surface wear is normal — sometimes even after the first use.

To help your gloves last longer:

  • Avoid rubbing the palms against artificial surfaces.
  • Don’t pull your gloves off by the fingers.
  • Keep the palms clean and slightly damp during play.
  • Avoid unnecessary contact with rough surfaces.

Small nicks or marks don’t necessarily mean the grip is gone. Grip comes from the latex itself, not just its outer surface.

5. Glove Cuts & Finger Protection

Different glove cuts offer different fits and levels of flexibility.

Negative and slimmer cuts provide a closer fit but may show wear sooner around the fingertips.

Roll finger cuts offer a different feel and more latex contact around the fingers. Avoid pulling these gloves off by the fingertips, as this can stress the stitching.

Some gloves also feature removable finger protection. These inserts may provide additional support, but younger goalkeepers can sometimes find them restrictive.

The best glove is one that fits comfortably and lets you handle the ball confidently.

6. Match Gloves or Training Gloves?

You don’t necessarily need separate gloves for training.

A good approach is to use your newer gloves for matches, then move them into training when they begin to show wear.

Seismic gloves use professional-grade latex, offering high-quality grip at competitive prices.

Remember that soft, high-grip latex naturally wears faster than harder, less grippy materials.

7. Grip Sprays & Glove Glue

Don’t use grip sprays, glove glue or Vaseline on new gloves.

These products can damage or contaminate fresh latex and reduce its lifespan.

If an older pair has lost its grip, a suitable glove grip product may provide a temporary improvement.

For newer gloves, the best approach is simple: wash them regularly and keep the palms slightly damp during play.

Heated Gloves — Important Battery Safety

If you own Seismic heated gloves, read the full product manual before use.

Lithium batteries require careful handling.

  • Inspect batteries before charging. Never charge a damaged, swollen or deformed battery.
  • Only use the charger supplied with your gloves.
  • Never leave batteries charging unattended or overnight.
  • Charge on a suitable non-flammable surface, away from combustible materials.
  • Stop using or charging a battery immediately if it becomes unusually hot, swollen or damaged.
  • Follow the product manual and local recycling guidance for safe battery disposal.

Important: Heated gloves require additional care. Always follow the supplied safety instructions.
